1st Semester Assessment

Semester Assessment

1. The pace of the year has been very quick and non-stop. Once our class was finished with one book, it was on to the next. It often seemed like not a second was wasted. I had a hard time trying to keep up with the class with reading assignments because of after school activities. I often fell behind in reading, then on the weekends struggled to keep up. With the research project, I did not completely understand what the project was outlining. I often wish that I had more time to research and with one rough draft.

2. I did not like the research project. I often could not find my book in the library, because someone else was using it. I liked the scheduling though, I wish there was more time to spend in the library for the second book. Most of the time was used for the first book. Highlighting the essay of another person's work did not help me though. The class time we spent on that did not help me understand what I needed to put into my research paper. The scheduled time however, was equal in the lab and library.

3. I liked the idea of sub-topics with a list of books about that sub-topic to choose from. I however, found some of the books hard to read and comprehend. Also, some of the books were not always acceptable in the Newtown Library. However, I enjoyed having a group to discuss with and criticize my writing. The sub-topic was a very help tool in the research project.

4. In researching, I still am not totally confidant on the idea. I often still use plot and I need to learn how to incorporate my ideas without using plot and more critical analysis. This difficulty has been addressed to me, I however, need to work on not using plot to create a strong research paper.

5. My opinion of digital portfolios has not changed. I still feel that it is a great idea and I enjoy posting my works on the web.

6. The question asks about this project, assuming that it is talking about the research project, I would have to say that I would ask for more time and one on one teacher conferences about the paper and revision. Assuming that it is talking about he digital portfolio, I don't have anything to say about how it could be improved. I like the project the way it is, it just takes time to get used to writing html-that's all.

7. I would take more time and work on it more frequently than rushing all of it at the last moment. I would work harder on not using plot and I would revise the paper a lot more carefully than I did. If I were doing a research project again, I would research more material in the library and at home on the internet. I would take more time to research.

8. I really like my Catcher In The Rye journals. Although, they were my first forms of writing, I really enjoyed the novel and I really enjoyed writing the journals. I loved writing about the ducks and Holden. I spent a lot of time on the journals and put a lot of thought into them. They were my favorite to write and I enjoy reading them over and over-especially journal #2.

9. If someone asked about this unit, I would tell them about how everything was rushed it seemed. I always felt like I couldn't complete something without starting another thing. I couldn't really take a brake and internalize what I was doing. Instead, I had limited time and a lot to do in that limited time. I felt as if I needed more time on things and more guidance.

10. I am not a self guided person, I need someone to show me the way. I do not really think for myself, but instead follow what everyone else does. I often have to ask someone if I am doing something right or if my idea is a good one. This year, I have had to grow up. I have had to become used to working on my own. I has been hard, sometimes I have no clue what I have doing, sometimes I do. All I can say-is that the more independence the teacher gives me the less guidance I will need in the future. I rather learn now than later.
