Asher had to study the New Testament of the Bible. Kahn asked Asher to study the New Testament of the Bible. "I felt upset and uncomfortable at having read from the Christian Bible. I though of my father. I thought of the mashpia. I wondered if the Rebbe really knew what Jacob Kahn was doing. I felt vaguely unclean." I wonder why Mr. Kahn is making Asher read from the Bible. I don't understand why Asher has to read from a Christian Bible to understand paintings. I don't understand why Mr. Kahn would have Asher disobey his religion, just to advance in art. I know that to be an artist one must have an open mind. Without an open mind, not much comes of paintings. However, I don't understand why Mr. Kahn is making Asher read form the Bible to advance his art. I don't know why it is important and relates to art. If it is making Asher feel unclean, and does not follow is religion. Then, I believe that Mr. Kahn should not have Asher read the Christian Bible, instead Asher should read about from the Old Testament or Jewish Books.
I find it hard to believe that people have such a strong faith in the Rebbe. He does not know, or more like does not tell Asher and his mother if Asher's father is alive and well. I don't understand why the Rebbe would do this to Asher and his mother. Instead he says to have faith and what will happen will happen. He does not state if he knows if he is well or not. I Also don't understand why the family is supposed to have such a faith in the Rebbe's decisions when Asher is learning about Christianity and not sticking with his faith. How could thins be the path that the Rebbe wants for Asher. The whole concept of trusting the Rebbe to make the decisions for the family is like having little or no control over your life. I do not think that I could live with someone making my decisions for me and deciding what is in my best interest.
